The Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT) Sri Lanka has opened its first international office in Dhaka, creating a new channel for Bangladeshi students to access higher education opportunities in Sri Lanka and international progression pathways. The initiative also strengthens educational links between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
The Dhaka International Office is designed to serve as an information and counselling centre for prospective students and their parents. It will provide guidance on IIT Sri Lanka’s academic programmes, admissions procedures and opportunities to pursue further education in countries including the UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
The office is inaugurated virtually in the presence of academics, education-sector representatives, industry leaders and senior officials from IIT Sri Lanka. Prof Jahirul Haque, International Advisor, along with Md Jahanger, Founder Principal of Legend International School, Md Shahriar Parvez, Founder of Legend International School and other representatives participate in the inauguration.
The new facility is expected to make it easier for Bangladeshi students to explore internationally connected academic pathways without having to rely solely on overseas admission channels. Students can use the office to understand programme options, admission requirements and potential international study opportunities associated with IIT Sri Lanka.
The expansion also reflects IIT Sri Lanka’s broader efforts to strengthen its international presence and engage more closely with education communities outside the country. By establishing a physical presence in Dhaka, the institute aims to build stronger relationships with students, schools, education professionals and other stakeholders in Bangladesh.
The initiative comes as demand for internationally oriented higher education continues to grow, with students increasingly seeking academic programmes that provide exposure to global institutions and opportunities for further study abroad. IIT Sri Lanka’s international progression pathways are positioned as an additional option for students looking to build globally relevant academic and professional credentials.
Beyond student recruitment, the Dhaka office is expected to contribute to stronger cross-border educational collaboration between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. It can provide a platform for greater engagement between academic institutions and help connect students with opportunities across multiple international destinations.
