- IIT Gandhinagar invites applications for PhD admissions 2026-27, with registration closing on September 28. Eligible candidates can apply across multiple disciplines and participate in the selection process.
The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) is inviting applications for admission to its PhD programmes for the 2026-27 academic sessions. Eligible candidates can submit their applications online until September 28, 2026, by 5 pm.
The admissions are open for the second semester of the 2026-27 academic sessions. IIT Gandhinagar offers doctoral programmes across disciplines including Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Cognitive Science, Computer Science and Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Earth Sciences, Electrical Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, Materials Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Design and several other areas.
The application process begins on September 7, 2026, at 10 am and closes on September 28 at 5 pm. The institute plans to announce the list of shortlisted candidates tentatively on October 15. Written tests and/or interviews are scheduled between October 22 and November 6, 2026.
Candidates generally require a minimum of 55 per cent marks or a 5.5 CPI in a relevant postgraduate or four-year bachelor’s degree programme. For SC, ST and PwD candidates, the minimum requirement is 50 per cent marks or a 5.0 CPI. Individual departments may prescribe higher eligibility or shortlisting criteria.
The selection process primarily considers candidates’ academic credentials, statement of purpose, written test performance and interview. Departments determine whether a written test is required and communicate the schedule to shortlisted candidates.
Candidates are required to submit their applications online. The application fee is Rs 300 for candidates in the general category and Rs 150 for SC, ST and PwD candidates. Those applying to more than one discipline must submit separate applications for each discipline.
Eligible regular PhD Scholars may also receive institute fellowship support, subject to the availability of funds and applicable conditions. The institute lists a monthly fellowship of Rs 37,000 for candidates meeting specified qualification criteria, with the possibility of an increased fellowship after successful completion of two years.
