The second edition of the Indo-Russian Education Summit (IRES) 2026 has commenced in New Delhi, bringing together policymakers, diplomats, university leaders, and academic experts from India and Russia to strengthen bilateral cooperation in higher education, medical studies, artificial intelligence, and research partnerships. The summit reflects growing collaboration between the two nations in the education sector and highlights increasing interest among Indian students in Russian universities, especially for medical education programmes.
The event is being organised by Rus Education in collaboration with Rossotrudnichestvo and the Embassy of the Russian Federation in India. More than 100 universities, senior government representatives, academic institutions, and industry stakeholders are participating in the two-day summit aimed at expanding institutional partnerships and academic exchanges between the two countries.
Among the prominent Russian delegates attending the summit are Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Ksenia Shevelkina, and senior officials from the Russian education sector. Indian representatives include National Medical Commission Chairman Dr. Abhijat Chandrakant Sheth, Association of Healthcare Providers Director General Dr. Girdhar Gyani, and several vice-chancellors and academic leaders from leading universities.
The summit features discussions on medical education, technical education, robotics, aerospace technologies, agriculture, and artificial intelligence. Delegates are also exploring opportunities for collaborative research, faculty and student exchange programmes, dual-degree initiatives, and innovation-driven partnerships between Indian and Russian institutions. The organisers state that the event seeks to create long-term academic cooperation that goes beyond traditional student mobility programmes.
A major focus of the summit is the growing role of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies in transforming higher education and healthcare systems. The discussions align with India’s broader push toward AI-driven innovation and global research collaboration. Participants are examining how educational institutions can jointly develop research ecosystems and industry-oriented training programmes in advanced technology sectors.
Russian Ambassador Denis Alipov highlighted Russia’s goal of increasing the number of international students to 500,000 by 2030 and stressed the importance of expanding academic exchanges and joint research initiatives with India. He noted that stronger educational collaboration would create new opportunities for students, researchers, and institutions in both countries.
The Indo-Russian Education Summit 2026 is expected to further deepen educational ties between India and Russia while opening new pathways for innovation, healthcare cooperation, and global academic partnerships in emerging fields.
