  • Delhi University has launched its Centre for Hindu Studies and has started the admission process for its MA program in Hindu Studies. The program aims to combine traditional knowledge of Hindu philosophy with contemporary subjects such as computer science, data analytics, commerce, and political science. The admission is merit-based and open to graduates from any discipline until September 30. The MA degree will allow students to pursue further research and study in Hindu Studies as well as a chosen minor subject. Delhi University is also offering other programs such as PG Diploma in Cybersecurity and Law and MA in Chinese Studies.

The newly established Centre for Hindu Studies at Delhi University (DU) started the admission process for the MA programme in Hindu Studies on Tuesday.

According to a DU statement, the programme seeks to integrate traditional knowledge related to Hindu philosophy with contemporary subjects such as computer science, data analytics, commerce and political science.

The admission is merit-based and graduates from any discipline meeting the minimum score requirement are eligible to apply till September 30.

“Under National Education Policy 2020, students can pursue a minor in their chosen field alongside their MA in Hindu Studies, opening doors to multidisciplinary learning and research. The minor course will be in the domains of computer science, data analytics, commerce, political science etc,” said Prerna Malhotra, joint director of the centre.

After acquiring the MA degree, the students will be eligible to pursue further research and study in Hindu Studies as well as the chosen minor subject,” she added.

“The initiative, under the leadership and guidance of vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh, is based on the belief that the academic endeavour through structured teaching-learning and research in the knowledge domain of the Hindu civilisation along with its history, literature and philosophy has largely remained dormant in the universities and research institutions. University Grants Commission’s introduction of Hindu Studies as a subject for National Eligibility Test has ensured that it is recognised as a knowledge domain that requires structured studies and career opportunities,” said Malhotra.

The move has provided DU with the impetus to initiate the programme as it remains committed to fostering academic excellence, innovation in teaching and inclusion of traditional Bhartiya ethos in higher education, she added.

DU is also offering a PG Diploma in Cybersecurity and Law, and an MA in Chinese Studies.
