- The recipients of this year’s Erasmus Mundus Scholarship hail from leading higher education institutes from across India and will study in a wide range of prestigious European universities.
A total of 146 Indian students have been awarded the Erasmus Mundus scholarships for the two-year master’s programme in Europe under Erasmus+ for the 2024 academic year. With this, India has become one of the top recipients of the scholarship.
Of the 146 students, 75 students are from the female category and 71 from male category. Worldwide, 2603 students from 137 countries have been awarded scholarships this year for the Erasmus Mundus Joint master’s degree, which offers a study programme jointly delivered by an international consortium of higher education institutions.
This selected students for this scholarship will be given the opportunity to study and conduct research at a minimum of two universities in different European countries, earning joint or double degrees in diverse fields such as sustainability, pharmaceuticals, engineering, quantum, data and various STEM and social science disciplines. The fully funded scholarship covers the recipient’s tuition fees, travel costs and living allowance.
The recipients of this year’s Erasmus Mundus Scholarship hail from leading higher education institutes from across India and will study in a wide range of prestigious European universities. The EU member states where students will start their studies are: France (31), Portugal (19), Belgium (17), Italy (15), Spain (14), Germany (9), Finland (8), Czech Republic (5), Sweden (4), Latvia (3), The Netherlands (2), Poland (2), Austria (2), Greece (1), and Hungary (1). Some of them will also start their first leg in countries associated with Erasmus+: Serbia (1), Israel (2), Turkey (2), and United Kingdom (8).

The fact that India ranks as top recipient of Erasmus+ scholarship since its inception, despite its competitive nature, speaks volumes about the caliber of Indian students. This is the start of an enriching and transformative experience for them. As they are about to study and live a unique experience in an EU country, they will also become ambassadors of the partnership between the EU and India. I wish them every success.”
Other European Commission funded Mobility programmes for Indians:
- Marie Skłodowska Post-Doctoral Fellowships: Open to researchers coming to Europe from another part of the world to pursue their research career. These fellowships take place in an EU Member State or Horizon Europe Associated Country and can last between 1 and 2 years. Researchers of any nationality can apply.
- European Research Council: The ERC, set up by the European Union in 2007, is the premier European funding organisation for excellent frontier research. It funds creative researchers of any nationality and age, to run projects based across Europe.
