The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay has announced to form a new science and tech partnership with the University of Chicago. The institute has now become an international partner of Chicago Quantum Exchange (CQE) which is headquartered at the University of Chicago. The partnership is focused on quantum information science, climate and energy, advanced microelectronics, artificial intelligence and data science.
“Strong global partnerships provide the expertise and resources to advance breakthrough innovation and are an essential part of developing a robust quantum ecosystem. We are very excited to be engaged with IIT Bombay in such a significant way,” said David Awschalom, the Liew Family Professor in Molecular Engineering at the University of Chicago, senior scientist at Argonne, and director of the Chicago Quantum Exchange.
The partnership reaffirms the goals of the US-India initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET), to elevate and expand our strategic technology partnership and defense industrial cooperation between the governments, businesses, and academic institutions of our two countries.
With this partnership, IIT Bombay has become one of the only five worldwide academic partners of CQE, which is an intellectual hub dedicated to the advancement of quantum information science and engineering. It is anchored by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory and Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Northwestern University. IIT Bombay also serves as the focal point of quantum research in India hosting the prominent Quantum Information Computing Science and Technology (QuICST) Hub.
