- The National Scholarship for Post-Graduate Studies offers eligible first-year PG students financial assistance of ₹15,000 per month for 10 months annually. Applicants must meet age, programme and enrolment requirements and apply through the National Scholarship Portal.
The National Scholarship for Post-Graduate Studies (NSPG) is an initiative from the Ministry of Education to offer financial aid to meritorious students from the economically weaker sections who are enrolled in recognised post-graduation courses in India. The scholarship is awarded to the students who are in the first year of their PG course (regular or full-time) at an eligible institute.
The scheme is for students enrolled in the first year of the first postgraduate course and with a first degree. Applicants are required to be under 30 years, studying a recognized post-graduate course full-time. Application is not accepted for students who have obtained a postgraduate qualification. The scholarship is only applicable when the programme is integrated (i.e., post graduate part).
Financial Assistance: Selected students will get ₹15,000/month for 10 months in a year for financial support of their post graduate studies. The help is supposed to help those who qualify to pay school expenses and remain in school.
The process of application can be done on the NSP and the eligible candidate can apply. The interested person has to register with their mobile number and verify using OTP provided. They then have to go through the e-KYC process and face authentication by using Aadhaar.
Once qualified, the applicant is provided with an OTR number, which allows him/her access to the application for the scholarship. Applicants are required to log-in, fill the application form, upload the necessary documents and submit the application online.
Documents that are required are Class 9 onwards mark sheets and certificates, provisional/final PG admission letter, proof of identification, bank details and 2 recent passport size photos.
Verification and Payment: There are two levels of verification of applications. The candidate’s institution verifies the application and then the concerned State Higher Education Department/any designated State Nodal Agency verifies it.
Every student can check their scholarship payment status in the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) with the help of their Aadhaar card number, bank account number or NSP application number. The scheme offers an opportunity to students to undertake higher education in India with structured financial support from the scheme.
