Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET), one of India’s premier engineering institutions, kicked off its highly anticipated Open Day 2025 today. Held over two days — 5th and 6th July 2025 — the event is designed to offer prospective students and their families an immersive experience of the university’s cutting-edge academic environment, innovative research ecosystem, and enriching student life.
With identical programming on both days to offer flexibility in participation, the event saw enthusiastic turnout from aspiring students, parents, and school representatives. More than 2,200 students, accompanied by their families, visited the campus, taking pride in their decision to explore an institution known for its high standards of academic rigor, excellence, and vibrant learning culture.
The Open Day began with a warm welcome and registration at the Institute’s main gate, followed by a detailed presentation series. The academic showcase was inaugurated with a keynote address by Prof. Padmakumar Nair, Vice Chancellor, TIET, who emphasized the institute’s commitment to shaping global leaders in science and technology.
“At Thapar Institute, we believe in a transformative education that goes beyond classrooms. Our goal is to develop well-rounded, innovative thinkers equipped to lead in a dynamic world. Open Day is our way of inviting young minds to witness the possibilities that lie ahead,” said Prof. Padmakumar Nair, Vice Chancellor, TIET.
The event also featured an inspiring session by Prof. Ajay Batish, Pro Vice-Chancellor, who highlighted the rich legacy of TIET since its inception in 1956. Prof. Batish spoke about the institute’s evolution into a hub of academic excellence, its contributions to engineering and technology education in India, and its unwavering mission to foster innovation, research, and industry collaboration.
The sessions highlighted key areas such as academic innovation, global pathways, student empowerment, and support services. Senior faculty, including Prof. Shruti Sharma (Dean of Academic Affairs) and Prof. Meenakshi Rana (Dean of Student Affairs), gave insightful talks on the diverse opportunities available at TIET, from international exchange programs and cutting-edge research to a vibrant culture of student clubs, arts, and sports.
Attendees were also introduced to the university’s strong industry connect through a session on corporate relations and job preparedness by Prof. Ajayinder S Jawanda. A special segment on Research and Entrepreneurship underscored TIET’s dedication to fostering next-generation innovators.
Post refreshments, participants proceeded to department-wise presentations and facility tours led by the respective Heads of Departments, covering disciplines such as Computer Science, ECE, Civil, Mechanical, Biotechnology, EIC, and Chemical Engineering.
The event concluded with a comprehensive campus tour and lunch, giving students and parents an opportunity to experience firsthand the expansive, modern infrastructure and student-friendly environment that TIET offers.
With Open Day 2025, TIET reaffirmed its position as a future-focused institution dedicated to nurturing talent, promoting innovation, and creating leaders for tomorrow.
