- IIM Jammu signs an MoU with the University of Alabama at Birmingham to advance healthcare AI, machine learning and big data research, while promoting student and faculty exchanges, innovation and immersive learning.
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu signs a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), United States, to strengthen international collaboration in healthcare management, artificial intelligence (AI) and innovation. The partnership aims to promote joint research, academic exchanges and technology-driven solutions for the evolving healthcare sector.
The agreement is signed during the Global CEO Conclave 2026, held at the IIM Jammu campus on October 16 and 17. Organised in collaboration with the Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organisations (CAHO), the event brings together healthcare leaders, hospital administrators, medical professionals and industry experts to discuss emerging challenges in healthcare leadership and hospital management.
The partnership provides a framework for joint research in healthcare AI, machine learning, big data analytics and supply chain management. These areas offer opportunities to examine how emerging technologies can support clinical and administrative processes, improve operational planning and address complex healthcare challenges.
The collaboration also covers healthcare innovation and entrepreneurship, with an emphasis on encouraging interdisciplinary research and developing practical solutions for healthcare organisations.
The MoU provides for student and faculty exchange programmes, creating opportunities for academic engagement and knowledge sharing between the two institutions. The partnership also envisages joint academic programmes, conferences and collaborative research activities.
Another key area is the development of immersive learning models using augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). These technologies can support interactive learning experiences and help students explore complex healthcare and management scenarios through simulated environments.
The agreement was signed by IIM Jammu Director Professor B. S. Sahay and Professor Rubin Pillay of UAB. Pillay serves as a Professor of Medicine and Business, Assistant Dean for Global Health Innovation at UAB’s School of Medicine, and Chief Innovation Officer of the UAB Health System.
The two-day conclave features seven dedicated CEO discussion sessions, known as war rooms, focusing on AI in healthcare, strategic leadership, financial sustainability, hospital operations, patient experience, digital marketing, workforce retention and women’s leadership.
Discussions also examine the responsible integration of AI into clinical and administrative workflows, alongside strategies to improve financial discipline, operational efficiency, patient engagement and workforce planning.
The partnership reflects IIM Jammu’s efforts to expand international academic engagement and connect management education with emerging healthcare technologies. By combining expertise in management, medicine, innovation and technology, the institutions aim to encourage research-led approaches to healthcare challenges.
The long-term impact will depend on the implementation of joint projects, academic exchanges and technology-focused initiatives developed under the agreement.
