- IIT Delhi’s 19th Open House showcases over 500 research presentations and technological innovations, attracting more than 4,500 visitors, including 3,000 school and college students.
The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi hosts the 19th edition of its annual Open House on October 31, 2026, showcasing more than 500 technological presentations and research innovations. The event attracts over 4,500 visitors, including approximately 3,000 school and college students and more than 1,500 representatives from industry, academia and the general public.
The annual initiative provides students and visitors with an opportunity to explore the institute’s research facilities, interact with researchers and understand how emerging technologies address real-world challenges. The presentations span 10 thematic areas, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science, Quantum Technologies, Semiconductors, Robotics, Advanced Materials, Optics and Photonics, Biotechnology, Sustainability, and Defence and Space.
The exhibition includes more than 100 working prototypes and innovative project demonstrations, over 225 research posters and more than 80 laboratory demonstrations. It also features over 90 three-minute research presentations delivered by undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The exhibits offer visitors insights into developments across scientific and engineering disciplines, allowing young learners to observe practical applications of research and innovation. The event also creates opportunities for students to interact with experts and receive feedback on their projects.
Binay Kumar Das, Director General of Electronics and Communication Systems at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), inaugurates the event as the chief guest and addresses students on the theme ‘Young Minds, Strong Nation’.
He encourages young learners to develop scientific curiosity and pursue research and technological innovation. He also highlights the importance of collaboration among academic institutions, research organisations and industries in developing indigenous technologies.
IIT Delhi’s Officiating Director, Professor Arvind Kumar Nema, says the annual Open House connects higher education, research and industry by making the institute’s academic and research facilities accessible to the public. The initiative also aims to inspire students to explore scientific careers and contribute to technological development.
The IIT Delhi Alumni Association supports the Research and Innovation Awards, which recognise outstanding undergraduate and postgraduate projects. At the 2026 edition, 43 distinguished alumni serve as jury members and evaluate student research posters, presentations and live demonstrations across the 10 thematic areas.
Nearly 1,200 IIT Delhi students participate in organising the event, with faculty members and institute staff also contributing to its execution.
Through the annual Open House, IIT Delhi provides a platform for showcasing student-led innovations, strengthening industry-academia engagement and encouraging the next generation of researchers and technology professionals.
