The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, has invited applications for its research fellowship programmes for the January 2027 intake. The fellowships are open to researchers at different stages of their academic and professional careers, with monthly remuneration reaching up to ₹2 lakh.
NLSIU is offering three fellowship categories: the Graduate Research Fellowship, NLSIU Postdoctoral Fellowship and University Research Fellowship. The programmes support research in law, social sciences, public policy and related interdisciplinary areas. The university has announced 10 positions under the Graduate Research Fellowship and five positions each under the Postdoctoral and University Research Fellowships.
Candidates can submit applications until October 30, 2026, at 5 pm IST. Applications are to be submitted through the Google Form provided for the respective fellowship on the official NLSIU website. The current call is specifically for the January 2027 intake.
For the Graduate Research Fellowship, applicants must hold a graduate degree in law or a postgraduate degree in social sciences, public policy or a related discipline. Candidates applying for the Postdoctoral Fellowship must have completed a PhD in law, social sciences, public policy or an allied field within the previous three years and should not have held a postdoctoral position at another university.
The University Research Fellowship is open to candidates with a recognised PhD, at least 10 years of teaching or relevant professional experience and a strong publication record. NLSIU also welcomes both disciplinary and interdisciplinary research across its fellowship programmes.
The starting monthly remuneration is ₹50,000 for the Graduate Research Fellowship, ₹1.20 lakh for the Postdoctoral Fellowship and ₹2 lakh for the University Research Fellowship. NLSIU states that the final remuneration will depend on the candidate’s educational background, qualifications, relevant experience and overall suitability.
Selected fellows are generally expected to be present on the NLSIU campus in Bengaluru during the fellowship period. The university may consider flexibility regarding campus presence on a case-by-case basis. Applicants have been advised to review the detailed eligibility criteria and fellowship-specific instructions before submitting their applications.
