- Jamia Millia Islamia approves one-year postgraduate programmes in 13 disciplines through ODL and online modes, including MA courses, MBA and MCom, in line with NEP 2020 and UGC regulations.
Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has approved the introduction of one-year postgraduate programmes through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and Online Learning (OL) modes across 13 disciplines, including Master of Business Administration (MBA). The programmes will be offered through the university’s Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE).
The decision aligns with the provisions of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and applicable University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations and amendments governing ODL and online programmes. The university’s September 21 office order formally records the approval for the new programmes.
Under the approved structure, JMI will offer one-year MA programmes in Education, English, Geography, Hindi, History, Human Resource Management, Islamic Studies, Political Science, Public Administration, Sociology and Urdu. The university has also approved a one-year MBA and a Master of Commerce (MCom) in Business Management through the ODL and/or online mode.
The programmes will be administered through the CDOE, which is responsible for JMI’s distance and online education initiatives. The university has directed its deans, directors, heads of departments and other concerned officials to take note of the decision. The Director of CDOE has also been asked to take the necessary action for implementing the approved programmes.
The move follows the UGC’s revised framework permitting eligible higher education institutions to introduce one-year postgraduate programmes through ODL and online modes. Under the UGC framework, institutions already recognised to offer corresponding two-year postgraduate programmes through these modes can introduce one-year programmes in the same discipline, subject to prescribed conditions.
JMI already offers several postgraduate programmes through distance mode, including MA programmes in Education, History, Human Resource Management, Sociology, Political Science, Public Administration, English and Hindi, as well as MBA and MCom programmes.
The introduction of one-year postgraduate programmes expands JMI’s flexible-learning offerings and provides an additional route for eligible learners seeking postgraduate qualifications through online and distance education. The university’s latest order places the implementation responsibility with the CDOE following the academic approval.
