IIT Jodhpur Launches BS Course to Tackle AI Job Disruption

  • IIT Jodhpur launches a four-year BS in Management and Technology to equip learners with interdisciplinary skills in business, technology and AI, addressing evolving workforce demands in the age of artificial intelligence.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur has launched a four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) in Management and Technology, an interdisciplinary undergraduate programme designed to prepare students for careers in an increasingly AI-driven economy. The institute says the programme responds to growing concerns about the impact of artificial intelligence on traditional jobs by equipping learners with a combination of technological expertise, business acumen, and innovation skills.

According to IIT Jodhpur, interactions with applicants for the inaugural batch reveal that students are increasingly prioritising career outcomes such as internships, placements, and long-term employability. While prospective students are focused on industry exposure and future job opportunities, parents are seeking greater clarity on the admission process and programme structure. The institute believes that an integrated curriculum combining management and technology can better prepare graduates for the evolving demands of the digital workforce.

The programme is open to candidates who have completed Class 12 or an equivalent qualification with at least 60 per cent aggregate marks (50 per cent for reserved categories). Admission is based on an entrance test conducted by the institute, followed by counselling. Unlike conventional IIT undergraduate programmes, the course does not require JEE qualification, making it accessible to a wider pool of learners, including working professionals and students pursuing parallel degrees.

Delivered in an online format, the programme combines recorded lectures, live faculty sessions, project-based learning, and optional campus immersion modules at IIT Jodhpur. The curriculum spans eight semesters and covers subjects including business strategy, data analytics, artificial intelligence, digital innovation, entrepreneurship, finance, and technology management. It also follows a stackable academic structure, enabling learners to earn progressive credentials at different stages in line with the principles of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

IIT Jodhpur states that graduates will be prepared for roles at the intersection of business and technology, including careers in product management, business analysis, digital transformation, consulting, and AI-enabled enterprises. The institute expects the programme to develop professionals who can combine strategic decision-making with technological fluency, a skill set that is becoming increasingly valuable as organisations adopt AI-driven business models. By integrating management education with emerging technologies, IIT Jodhpur aims to prepare future-ready professionals capable of navigating rapid technological change and leading innovation across industries.
