- DigiLocker and the Association of Australian Education Representatives in India (AAERI) have launched AAERI Verify, a digital platform designed to streamline document verification for Indian students applying to Australian universities. The system enables secure, consent-based verification of academic, identity and financial documents.
The National e-Governance Division (NeGD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has partnered with the Association of Australian Education Representatives in India (AAERI) to launch AAERI Verify, a digital platform designed to simplify document verification for Indian students seeking admission to Australian universities. The platform was unveiled during the AAERI Annual Convention in New Delhi.
Integrated with DigiLocker, the platform enables students to securely share authentic, issuer-verified academic, identity and financial documents with participating institutions. The consent-based system is designed to reduce dependence on physical records and manual verification while improving the reliability of documents submitted during the international admission process.
AAERI Verify introduces a two-stage verification process. The first, known as the Student Check, is conducted before a university application is submitted. The second, called the Sponsor Check, takes place after a student receives an admission offer and focuses on verifying financial documents provided by sponsors.
Through DigiLocker integration, Australian universities can access digitally signed records issued by authorised institutions with the student’s explicit consent. The process is expected to help reduce fraudulent documentation, protect student data and shorten the time required for credential verification.
NeGD Director JL Gupta said the collaboration demonstrates how India’s digital public infrastructure can address challenges in international education. DigiLocker, a flagship initiative under MeitY’s NeGD, provides citizens with a secure platform for storing, sharing and verifying digitally signed documents issued by authorised organisations.
DigiLocker has expanded significantly as part of India’s Digital India programme, with more than 72 crore registered users. Its integration with AAERI Verify represents an extension of India’s digital public infrastructure into the international education sector and could make credential verification more efficient for students planning to study in Australia.
The initiative also comes amid efforts to strengthen document authenticity within Australia’s international education system. By combining DigiLocker’s source-verified records with AAERI’s verification framework, the partnership aims to create a more transparent and efficient admissions process while reducing administrative challenges for students and universities.
