IIM Bangalore Launches Tata Trusts-Backed UG School

  • IIM Bangalore receives support from Tata Trusts for its new undergraduate school, which is launching residential BSc Honours Programmes in Economics and Data Science from August 2026 with a focus on multidisciplinary learning and research.

The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) is expanding its academic footprint by launching its first undergraduate school with support from Tata Trusts. The initiative marks a significant shift for the premier management institute, which has traditionally focused on postgraduate, doctoral, and executive education programmes.

The newly established School of Undergraduate Studies is set to introduce its first batch of students in August 2026, offering four-year residential Bachelor of Science (Honours) programmes in Economics and Data Science. The programmes are designed to provide students with an interdisciplinary learning experience by combining core subjects with complementary areas such as business, data science, and economics.

The Tata Trusts-backed initiative aims to strengthen the infrastructure, faculty development, and research capabilities of IIM Bangalore’s undergraduate education ecosystem. The funding support will contribute towards building academic facilities and creating a strong foundation for the institute’s expansion into undergraduate studies.

The inaugural batch will begin with a limited intake, with students admitted through a national-level selection process involving an entrance examination followed by personal interviews. The programmes are structured around a multidisciplinary approach aligned with the principles of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, focusing on analytical thinking, innovation, communication skills, and practical learning.

The undergraduate programmes will be offered through IIM Bangalore’s upcoming second campus at Jigani, Bengaluru, under the School of Multidisciplinary Studies. The curriculum includes opportunities for internships, global exposure through exchange programmes, and applied learning experiences to prepare students for evolving industry requirements.

With this expansion, IIM Bangalore aims to create a new model for undergraduate education that blends management education with emerging fields such as data science and economics. The move also reflects a broader trend among leading institutions in India to develop future-ready graduates equipped with interdisciplinary knowledge and problem-solving capabilities.

The collaboration between IIM Bangalore and Tata Trusts highlights the growing role of philanthropic partnerships in strengthening higher education infrastructure and research-driven learning. Through the new undergraduate school, IIMB seeks to extend its academic legacy to younger learners while building a foundation for innovation, leadership, and responsible decision-making.
