Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata, reaffirming its legacy of excellence and holistic education, hosted its flagship four-day induction and orientation programme COMPASS 2025 for the incoming batch of B.Tech and M.Tech Students from 10th to 13th September 2025. Designed to guide young technocrats at the threshold of their academic and professional journeys, COMPASS served as a true “compass” – aligning students with values, vision, and purpose.
The first day of COMPASS 2025 also witnessed CONFLUENCE 2025 – the New Parents’ Orientation Programme, which brought together the parents of the new batch in an atmosphere of reflection and inspiration. Swami Vedatitanandaji Maharaj from Ramakrishna Mission Shilpamandira, Belur Math, addressed the gathering, reminding everyone that education is not just about intellectual growth but also about nurturing inner strength and character.
“Parents and teachers are the twin forces that shape the destiny of every child. When values and wisdom walk hand in hand with knowledge, true education happens,” Swami Vedatitanandaji Maharaj said, striking an emotional chord with both parents and students.
The inaugural session of COMPASS 2025 was graced by eminent dignitaries. Prof. Vibha Tandon, Director, CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Biology (CSIR-IICB), delivered the Chief Guest’s address, urging students to embrace scientific curiosity and innovation:
“Science and technology must not be pursued in isolation. They must touch lives, transform societies, and anticipate the challenges of tomorrow. I urge every student here to nurture curiosity, courage, and compassion — for these will define the innovators of the future.”
The Guest of Honour, Mr. Sajjid Hussain, Global Delivery Head – Supply Chain Practice & Center Head, Cognizant Kolkata, brought industry perspectives to the gathering:
“We are living in a world where adaptability is as important as knowledge. The future will reward those who think critically, act ethically, and collaborate seamlessly across cultures and technologies. I see in Heritage students the potential to be global leaders.”
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Pradip Agarwal, CEO, Heritage Group of Institutions, outlined the vision of Heritage:
“Education at Heritage goes beyond classrooms and textbooks. With COMPASS and CONFLUENCE, we strive to prepare our students not only as competent engineers but also as responsible human beings committed to the progress of our nation. This is where character meets competence, and learning finds its true purpose.”
Prof. Basab Chaudhuri, Principal, Heritage Institute of Technology, extended a warm welcome to the new entrants, stating:
“The beginning of this journey is not just about academics; it is about shaping attitudes, values, and resilience. We want every student to leave Heritage as a confident professional and a compassionate citizen.”
Sharing his reflections, Prof. Souvik Bhattacharyya, Principal Advisor – Higher Education, Heritage Institute of Technology, emphasized the evolving role of higher education:
“Today, education must create bridges between knowledge and application. COMPASS provides that platform where students discover themselves, align with global opportunities, and yet remain grounded in human values.”
Across four immersive days, COMPASS 2025 offered sessions led by experts on cybersecurity, wellness, stress management, spirituality, nutrition, and overall well-being, ensuring students are equipped to handle both professional challenges and personal growth.
The programme culminated on 13th September 2025 with an impactful session by distinguished alumni from diverse fields. They shared their journeys of perseverance, innovation, and leadership, reminding the freshers that the Heritage legacy is one of resilience, creativity, and service to society.
Together, CONFLUENCE 2025 and COMPASS 2025 created a profound beginning for the new academic journey — a blend of inspiration for parents, empowerment for students, and a collective vision of excellence and purpose for the future.
