- BITS Pilani Hyderabad launches CRENS, a research centre focusing on national security, aiming to enhance security capabilities through innovation and collaboration
The Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS) Pilani Hyderabad has inaugurated a Centre for Research Excellence in National Security (CRENS), aiming to enhance the nation’s security capabilities through indigenous technology development, joint research, skill development and entrepreneurship.
CRENS will collaborate with various organisations to promote self-reliance in national security, contributing to the country’s strategic and economic growth. The success of this initiative will ensure a secure and prosperous nation, ensuring a secure future for the nation.
Dr G Satheesh Reddy, former Secretary DD R&D, Chairman of DRDO and Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister, graced the inauguration ceremony of CRENS. He unveiled its logo and emphasised the comprehensive vision of CRENS, which covers borders, health and cyberspace. Dr G Satheesh Reddy emphasised the importance of developing new technologies to combat asymmetric warfare and highlighted CRENS’ geographical advantage at the Hyderabad campus, allowing collaboration with national institutions.
CRENS is a strategic organisation with three main verticals: offering hybrid courses for national security professionals, conducting research for practical solutions and encouraging innovation in defense and space sectors. These verticals aim to enhance the skills of professionals in these critical areas, promoting national security and space-related innovation.
CRENS, a research institute at BITS Pilani, is committed to contributing to national security strategic objectives. Located in Hyderabad, it aims to develop indigenous solutions using BITS Pilani’s robust research infrastructure and strategic location. Collaboration between academia, research labs and industry partners will develop cutting-edge technologies and skilled human resources, ensuring a secure and self-reliant future for India.
