- Skill India collaborates with the Indian Armed Force to implement a Resettlement Training Programme to improve the employability of 70,000 Armed Force personnel post-superannuation
The Regional Directorate of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship in Telangana has partnered with the Directorate General Resettlement to implement a comprehensive Resettlement Training Programme, focusing on sectors like aerospace, aviation, capital goods and automotive, to boost the Skill India Mission and enhance employability of superannuating Armed Service Personnel.
The partnership aims to reintegrate retiring service personnel into civilian life, catering to diverse skill sets like disabled soldiers, widows and dependents. The programme will be conducted in 33 National Service Training Institutions (NSTIs) across India, aiming to reintegrate 70,000 Armed Forces personnel after superannuation.
“The company is leading initiatives to empower Armed Service Personnel as they transition into civilian life. They are focusing on high-demand sectors and delivering personalised Resettlement Training Programmes for retiring service personnel. This initiative aims to facilitate a smooth transition, supporting personal growth and contributing to the nation’s prosperity. The company is utilising the expertise of retired personnel to enhance the quality of work across high-demand sectors”, Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary, The Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, said.
The Reesettlement Training Programm provides a comprehensive curriculum for Armed Service Personnel, including three specialised courses at the National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) Vidyanagar and NSTI Ramanthapur. These courses include Production Technology, Basics of Automobile and Drone Technician, focusing on welding technology, metrology, auto CAD, CNC programming, operation and maintenance and drone technology skills.
The Directorate General Resettlement (DGR), under the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare within the Ministry of Defence, is a vital organisation supporting Ex-Servicemen by training and equipping them with additional skills, ensuring a smooth transition into civilian life and aligning with corporate and industrial needs.
The National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD) has conducted 13 programmes for 455 participants in FY22-23 and 413 participants in FY23-24 and 10 programmes for 297 participants in entrepreneurship, retail entrepreneurship, leading retail teams and Web Development. These programmes are approved by DGR and will be conducted across various cities.
The programmes aim to provide mentorship and assistance to retired army personnel, enabling them to establish and manage successful enterprises.
The Union Cabinet introduced the Agnipath recruitment scheme last year to modernise India’s armed forces and prepare a skilled youth for defense preparedness and GDP growth. MSDE is working with the Armed forces to implement the scheme, recruiting candidates from ITIs and other technical institutions. The ministry aims to impart skills to ITI students to better suit job roles in the future.
