Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University has launched certificate courses in two foreign languages – French and Japanese.
The one-year certificate course will be taught at the University School of Humanities & Social Sciences on weekends during the academic session 2023-24.
Forty seats are available in each of the courses, and there is no upper age limit to enroll. The course fee is Rs 30,000. Students must apply before October 20.
The minimum qualification for the course is passing the 12th standard with a minimum of 50% marks. The admission form and brochure for the course are available on the university’s website.
Vivek Sachdeva, professor of English at IPU, told TOI,”Knowledge of foreign languages is in high demand in tourism, hospitality, international business, diplomatic services, industry, education and other related fields. Proficiency in foreign languages will open new opportunities for those who successfully complete this course. Equipped with reading, writing and speaking skills in foreign languages, graduates can also pursue careers as translators in government and private sectors. The university introduced this course with this high employability factor in mind.”
The board of studies has designed the foreign language courses to diversify the scope of the syllabus, and one faculty member each has been hired by the university for the courses. The university has taken inputs from foreign language experts at other universities too, since this is an inaugural foreign language program at IP University, said officials.
