- Amity University joins hands with Gautam Buddh Nagar Police to help resolve family disputes through Family Dispute Resolution Clinic (FDRC), Noida
Amity University signed an MoU with the Women and Child Safety Cell Gautam Buddh Nagar to establish a Family Dispute Resolution Clinic at the Women and Child Safety District Unit, Police Commissionerate, Sector-108, Gautam Buddh Nagar for the redressal of domestic and family disputes.
The clinic will resolve such disputes through counseling and mediation assisted by the domain experts of Amity from Amity Law School, Amity Institute of Psychology and Allied Sciences and Amity Centre for Guidance and Counselling. The Counselling services provided by Amity University experts will be free of cost.
“The Supreme Court mandates mediation for cases related to dowry harassment and domestic violence. If mediation fails three times, police must resort to coercive action. The Family Dispute Resolution Clinic was created to address the police’s inconsistent approach to such cases, which lacks a deeper understanding of victims’ psyches. This requires professional help and trauma-centric policing. Crime against women is widely accepted and experts are needed to engage professionals between victims and perpetrators.
The centre will also provide counseling for rape survivors, as they go through significant trauma and unconsciously change their family and societal behavior. Psychological sessions are needed to sensitively handle these matters. Patience and the ability to read the psychological mind are crucial in such matters. Currently, the centre will focus on family counseling but plans aim to include rape survivors. The centre is grateful to Amity for their efforts and dedication to helping the police and the centre hopes to be beneficial for society and the country”, Lakshmi Singh, IPS Police Commissioner, Gautam Buddh Nagar, stated.
“Amity has introduced a compulsory course on Human Values and Community Outreach for all students, partnering with numerous NGOs and organisations. This initiative aims to provide students, particularly psychology and law students, with hands-on experience and a real-life environment. The Family Dispute Resolution Clinic offers counseling five days a week, allowing faculty, PhD Scholars, M. Phil Scholars of Law and psychologists to address family matters in a real-life setting”, Dr Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh, said.
