- The renewed agreement between BIT Mesra and the Bihar government will continue BIT Patna’s off-campus operations while supporting technical education access
Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra and the Department of Science, Technology and Technical Education (DSTTE), Government of Bihar, have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to continue the operations of BIT Patna as an off-campus centre of BIT Mesra till 16 December 2030.
The agreement was signed on 22 May 2026 in Patna during a formal ceremony held at the chamber of the Secretary, DSTTE, Government of Bihar.
The renewed partnership aims to strengthen technical education access in Bihar while continuing BIT Patna’s academic and institutional association with BIT Mesra.
The MoU was signed by Himanshu Sharma, IAS, Secretary, DSTTE, Government of Bihar, and Prof. Indranil Manna, Vice Chancellor, BIT Mesra. Ahmad Mahmood, IAS, Director, DSTTE, and Dr Rajesh Jain, Registrar, BIT Mesra, signed as witnesses to the agreement.
Senior officials and academic representatives present during the signing included Dr Dheeresh Kumar Mallick, Director, BIT Patna; Dr Abhinav Kumar Shandilya, Associate Professor, Department of Management; and Trisha Kumar, Assistant Registrar, BIT Patna.
The agreement ensures that BIT Patna will continue functioning under the academic framework of BIT Mesra while supporting technical education opportunities for students within Bihar. The renewed MoU also retains provisions related to reservation benefits for Bihar students and focuses on strengthening institutional cooperation, infrastructure development and academic expansion.
During the meeting, officials also discussed future development plans for BIT Patna, including expansion of academic infrastructure and measures aimed at supporting the institution’s long-term growth and capacity building.
The renewed collaboration comes as states increasingly focus on strengthening regional technical education ecosystems and improving access to industry-oriented higher education programmes closer to students’ home states.
