Spreading awareness about girl child education, the ‘Amity Bhaag India – Race for Girl Child Education’ marathon was organised in the city on Sunday. The run started from Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE) and concluded at Amity International School, Gwalior.
Around 1,800 participants, including students, athletes, corporate representatives, faculty members and fitness groups, took part in the marathon held under the theme “Run for Her Right to Learn.” The event aimed to encourage education for underprivileged girls and support the initiatives of the Amitasha Foundation.
The marathon began at 5:30 am and saw enthusiastic participation from the community. The event also witnessed the virtual presence of Dr Amita Chauhan, Chairperson, Amity Group of Schools and RBEF, who congratulated the participants and said that ‘Bhaag India’ symbolises society’s collective commitment towards ensuring every girl’s right to education.
Several dignitaries including Lt Gen V.K. Sharma (Retd), Pro-Chancellor of Amity University Gwalior, Vice-Chancellor Prof R.S. Tomar, and Dr Deepika Bhambhani, Principal of Amity International School, Gwalior, extended their congratulations for the successful organisation of the event. They emphasised that empowering girls through education will play a key role in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
The marathon featured three categories — 3 km run, 5 km fun run and 10 km competitive run. Winners were awarded cash prizes and certificates. The registration fee collected for the event was contributed to the Amitasha Foundation, which works for the education of underprivileged girls.
The Gwalior chapter of ‘Amity Bhaag India’ was inaugurated by Madhya Pradesh Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar, who appreciated the initiative and said such events help bring positive social change.
The valedictory and prize distribution ceremony was attended by Brigadier Dharm Veer Singh as the chief guest. Deputy commissioner of the municipal corporation Shishir Shrivastava, social activist Savitri Shrivastava, and ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ brand ambassador Varsha Chauhan were also present.
The event received support from several organisations including GAIL (Gold Partner), Prem Motors, Amul, Amrit Aqua, Mafatlal, Cornitos, Deoraj Hospital, Goonj 90.8 FM, TNN World, Glomart and many more.
The event was conceptualised and coordinated by Ruchikka Krishnani, who said that the Gwalior edition was the third chapter of the ‘Bhaag India’ series, which began in Raipur and continued in Lucknow. The initiative aims to spread awareness about girl child education across the country.
