Global Learning Charter Public School (GLCPS) has named Matthew St. Jean to the newly created position of Dean of Students.
St. Jean first joined GLCPS in 2013 as the physical education teacher before departing several years later to teach physical education in another school system. A New Bedford native, St. Jean attended New Bedford High school where he played varsity baseball and football and ran track. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 2012 where he was a member of the football team.
The Dean of Students, under the direct supervision of the School Principal and in cooperatio with the Vice Principal and Director of School Culture, provides general assistance in a wide variety of school administrative functions including student behavior management, classroom support, building management and developing school culture. The position serves all grades 5-12.
St. Jean will serve as a resource for teachers regarding student achievement, attendance, behavior and other needs. He will provide supplemental support in areas that inhibit student achievement and communicate regularly with GLCPS families to maintain a positive relationship. He will assist with maintaining a safe and secure campus creating a positive school image.
