Indian Medical Graduates Lead Gullas College of Medicine 2025 Convocation in Cebu

The Pacific Grand Ballroom at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino became a lively venue on July 23, 2025, as Gullas College of Medicine Inc. (GCM) hosted its grand commencement ceremony for Batch Fornix 2025. The event marked a powerful moment of academic achievement, cultural unity, and emotional reunions, honouring 733 graduates representing 17 nationalities, with a significant number hailing from India.

Held under the inspiring theme, “New Generation of GCM Physicians: Torchbearers of Compassion and Excellence,” the ceremony reflected the spirit of dedication, sacrifice, and perseverance that defines the medical profession. For many students, the day also marked a heartfelt reunion with families they hadn’t seen in years, due to the rigours of medical education and overseas commitments

The event was graced by His Excellency Harsh Kumar Jain, Ambassador of India to the Philippines, who served as the guest of honour. In his keynote address, Ambassador Jain reminded the young doctors of the calling they have chosen: “This is a noble profession. And one thing should be constant—your unwavering commitment to the service.”

Also delivering the commencement address was Dr Maria Flores Vanio-Anong, member training officer of the Philippine Board of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, who emphasised the selflessness required in the medical field and the perseverance it demands.

Adding to the inspiration of the evening was Dr David K. Pillai, Chief Executive Consultant of the Gullas College of Medicine who shared a poignant message for the graduating batch: “Life is going to knock you down. It’s going to be harsh. It’s going to be difficult. But those who are strong enough, who have got the positive thinking and vengeance to achieve, will always achieve.”

Outstanding students from the class were also recognised for their academic distinction and leadership. Among them, Dr Joie Verity Almerez was given the name Top 1 from the Local Batch, while Dr Miit Saudagar Godase, an Indian student, got Top 1 from the International Batch. Their achievements spoke a lot about the rigorous training and the global standard of education at GCM.

In an emotional speech, Dr Almerez recalled moments of perseverance, late-night hours of study and the strength of friendships along the way that struck the crowd’s heartstrings.

The ceremony concluded with the traditional Hippocratic Oath, by which Batch Fornix 2025 formally entered the medical profession. With empathy for the sick man, integrity, and a spirit united to serve the world, the graduating class is an example of how GCM is becoming the desired destination for Indian and international medical aspirants – they stand together in healing, serving, and leading.
