Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata SWAYAM‑NPTEL Awareness Workshop organized by MAKAUT

Heritage Institute of Technology (HIT), Kolkata, in collaboration with Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), successfully organized a SWAYAM‑NPTEL Awareness Workshop on 9 July 2025. The landmark event drew almost 400 faculty members, including deans, principals, heads of departments, and senior officials from MAKAUT‑affiliated colleges across West Bengal.

The programme, meant to boost awareness around open online courses under the national SWAYAM‑NPTEL initiative, featured a high-profile inaugural ceremony. Distinguished dignitaries included Dr. Partha Pratim Lahiri, Registrar, MAKAUT, Dr. Subhashis Datta, Controller of Examinations, MAKAUT, Prof. Basab Chaudhuri, Principal, Heritage Institute of Technology, Prof. Souvik Bhattacharyya, Principal Advisor, Heritage Group of Institutions, Mr. Pradip Agarwal, CEO, Heritage Group of Institutions, Prof. Haimanti Banerjee, Professor, Department of Architecture & Regional Planning, IIT Kharagpur, Associate Dean of Continuing Education & Outreach, IIT Kharagpur and Mr. Shib Sankar Das, Senior Manager, NPTEL.

In their address,  Dr. Partha Pratim Lahiri  emphasized the importance of integrating advanced digital platforms like SWAYAM‑NPTEL into everyday teaching practice.  Dr. Subhashis Datta, in turn, spoke about the examination standards and quality frameworks facilitated through such platforms. Prof. Basab Chaudhuri outlined the institute’s commitment to pedagogical innovation, while Mr. Pradip Agarwal highlighted how enriching faculty capabilities through MOOCs aligns with the Heritage Group’s strategic educational vision.

Faculty participants actively engaged in hands-on sessions, exploring course enrollment, certification procedures, and content navigation on SWAYAM‑NPTEL. The workshop also featured demonstrations on leveraging these platforms for blended and online teaching models.

This initiative supports the goals of India’s National Education Policy and MAKAUT’s mission to modernize teaching and learning across technical institutions in West Bengal.
