IIM Kozhikode admits nearly 60% female students in latest batch of PG programme

  • In the 2024 batch, Maharashtra accounts for the highest number of students (79), followed by Uttar Pradesh (43) and the home state of Kerala accounts for 41 students at IIM Kozhikode

The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIM Kozhikode) has admitted nearly 60 per cent of women candidates to their 28th batch of postgraduate management programme out of a total of 631 students.

IIM Kozhikode on June 28 conducted the inauguration ceremony for the latest inductees of their flagship postgraduate programme (PGP), PGP liberal studies and management (PGP-LSM), PGP finance (PGP-F) and doctoral programme in management (PhD). The chief guest of the event was Arun Kohli, country head of India, Morgan Stanley.

The new inductees comprising of a total of 631 students have been admitted into IIMK’s regular, full-time programmes: 28th batch of PGP (497 students), fifth batch of PGP-LSM (53 students), fifth batch of PGP-F (53 students) and 18th batch of DPM (PhD) (28 students) programmes of the institute, to make it the largest IIMK cohort till date, an institute statement said.

This year a total of 53 students were enrolled in their PGP liberal studies out of which 58 per cent are female candidates. For the 18 batch PhD programme (DP) nearly half candidates were women, i.e. 13 out of the total 28 candidates.

Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director IIMK said, “At IIM Kozhikode, we take immense pride in being a pioneer in promoting gender diversity among Indian B-Schools. This year, we are thrilled to announce that we have yet again achieved a significant milestone with close to 60% female students, the highest ever in our history.”

According to a press release, IIM Kozhikode has only surpassed its own past record, even setting a new benchmark for gender diversity among older IIMs in India.

Furthermore, this year IIM Kozhikode admitted 15 international students through GMAT and CAT exams from the USA, UK, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Qatar, Germany, and Canada in their full time MBA programmes, the highest number in past two years.

This year’s batch comprises 34 per cent fresher candidates and the remaining 66 per cent with an average work experience of 2 years. Non-engineers make up for 45 per cent of flagship cohort and 49 per cent for the three full-time MBA programmes taken together. The other candidates are from diverse backgrounds including from sciences, humanities, arts, commerce, medical (MBBS), BDS pharmacy, law and chartered accountancy.

Overall IIMK has students from 28 states and union territories, with 75% students from non- metros. Maharashtra accounts for the highest number of students (79), followed by Uttar Pradesh (43) and the home state of Kerala account for 41 students.
