Delhi Rated Best Student City in India in QS Best Student Cities 2025; London retains top Spot

  • This time, Delhi has climbed 21 places to 111th spot and is named the second most affordable city for students.

A total of four Indian cities — Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai — have found a spot in this year’s edition of the Quacquarelli Symonds Best Cities Rankings These cities rankings have also improved with Delhi climbing 21 places to secure the 111th spot and is named the second most affordable city for students. Bengaluru has made a significant leap of 17 places to 130th spot and is the seventh most affordable city for students.

All four Indian cities are among the top 30 for affordability. Additionally, all Indian cities appear in the top 100 for Employer Activity.

However, none of the Indian cities ranked has made it to the top 100 for Student Mix, as the internationalisation of universities is still in its early stages. Similarly, they do not make the top 100 for Desirability, as a relatively low number of international students currently select India as a study destination.

In 2021-22, the total number of foreign students in Indian institutions was around 46,000, which represented a 2 per cent drop compared to the previous year. These students came from 170 countries, with the top senders being Nepal (28 per cent), Afghanistan (7 per cent), the United States (6 per cent), Bangladesh (6 per cent), the UAE (5 per cent), and Bhutan (3 per cent).

Globally, London retained its spot for the world’s best student city for the sixth consecutive edition, followed by Tokyo in second and Seoul in third. Munich climbed to fourth while Melbourne dropped to fifth. Sydney, Paris , Zurich, Berlin and Montreal followed at sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth spots respectively. China (Mainland) has the highest number of ranked cities, followed by Taiwan with five, and India and Indonesia with four each.
