- IIT Madras collaborates with RWTH Aachen and TU Dresden to introduce a Joint Master’s Programme focusing on Water Security and Global Change. Applications close on April 30, 2024
Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) is partnering with German universities RWTH Aachen and TU Dresden to launch a Joint Master’s Programme on ‘Water Security and Global Change’. The programme, in collaboration with AIT, Bangkok and UNU-FLORES, will allow students to study at the three universities, with the flexibility to complete their Master’s thesis at their chosen university.
The programme will begin in April 2024, with classes starting on July 29th. Applications can be made through the official website.
This programme will provide students with interdisciplinary research and studies, empowering them with the skills to address water security challenges and climate adaptation realms in a global environment. Indian as well as International students with specified Engineering backgrounds are eligible to apply for this Master’s Programme.
The programme will offer internships and Master theses in collaboration with companies, governmental agencies and NGOs, combining the expertise of partner institutes to meet regional, national and international stakeholders’ needs, with a modular structure.
IIT Madras offers a Master’s Programme with five courses, six courses each from IITM, TUD and RWTH and a final semester dedicated to a Master’s Thesis with advisors from partners and universities. The Office of Global Engagement offers International Interdisciplinary Master’s degree programmes (I2MP) exclusively for foreign students, offering nine interdisciplinary degrees. Students can apply from any engineering/science discipline, including Indian culture and basic research skills. The programme’s second year is dedicated to a research-based master’s thesis. This two-year programme is designed for top-tier international Science and Engineering students interested in an interdisciplinary master’s degree.

Holger Schüttrumpf, Head, IWW, RWTH Aachen said, “Climate adaptation starts with water. To meet this challenge, a new global JMP was launched by four well-known universities in three countries on two continents.”
