IIT Guwahati Launches Drone Pilot Training Organisation

  • IIT Guwahati and EduRade collaborate to establish India’s largest Remote Pilot Training Organisation, enhancing drone technology and education nationwide

The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati has launched India’s largest drone pilot training organisation, in collaboration with EduRade. Graduates will receive a Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) on medium class approved by the DGCA, allowing them to become Certified Drone Pilots.

The primary objective of the Remote Pilot Training Organisation (RPTO) is to promote the advancement of drone technology in India. The recently launched initiative named is ‘Namo Drone Didi’.

IIT Guwahati RPTO has launched a DGCA-Certified Medium Class Drone Pilot Training Course to enhance drone training skills in India. The course will cater to youth in the North East and women from self-help groups engaged in agriculture under the Namo Drone Didi Yojna. Upon completion, students will receive a Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) from the DGCA, allowing them to legally operate drones and pursue a career as Certified Drone Pilots.

This is a three-month drone training programme for Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and other officers. The programme focuses on comprehensive training in drone technologies, pilot training, software operations and applications. The programme aims to modernise armed forces operations and prepare participants for post-retirement career options, equipping them with the knowledge and vision to excel in the dynamic drone industry or pursue technology entrepreneurs.

The IITG-RPTO plans to launch a diverse range of drone-based courses aimed at catering to various skill levels and interests, thereby ensuring comprehensive education and upskilling opportunities for individuals.

Overall, the collaboration between IIT Guwahati and EduRade represents a concerted effort to catalyse innovation, empower the youth and entrepreneurs and foster socio-economic development through the responsible integration of drone technology. By nurturing a new generation of certified drone pilots and facilitating industry partnerships, this drone pilot training organisation is poised to make a lasting impact on the regional and national drone ecosystem.
