The Times Higher Education (THE) released the World University Rankings 2024 by subject today. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru has gained the top position in India in four subjects, i.e. Physical Sciences, Engineering, Computer Science and Life Sciences. In Physical Sciences, IISc Bengaluru featured in the 201–250 rank.
California Institute of Technology has bagged the first position globally, followed by Harvard University, Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Cambridge.
In the engineering list, IISc Bengaluru featured in the 101-125 rank area but is at the top in the India region. Globally, Harvard University has topped the list, followed by Stanford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of Oxford and University of Cambridge.

For the business and economics category, Jamia Millia Islamia topped the India region by ranking in the 401-500 range. Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University and Harvard University ruled the top three spots globally.
In India, for clinical and health, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) topped the list of Indian institutes by obtaining 201–250 rank, Banaras Hindu University, Panjab University and Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences have obtained ranks in the 301-400 range.
No Indian university has been able to earn a spot in the ‘Law’ subject list.
For THE World University Rankings 2024 by subject, universities have been accessed on five components — teaching, research environment, research quality, industry and international.
